Ultrasound Computer Tomography, Distributed Volume Reconstruction and GRID Computing

چکیده
At Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe the demonstrator of a new medical imaging system based on 3D ultrasound computer tomography will be available at the beginning of 2005. This system requires not only the recording but also the processing of very large datasets of about 3.5GBytes. On a single PC the reconstruction of a high resolution volume will take up to several weeks. However the reconstruction process can be parallelized. Our long term goal is to accelerate the reconstruction process significantly by the use of GRID technologies. In this paper we present our approach to parallelize the reconstruction by A–scan– decomposition using Java RMI and Matlab.

Review of Parallel Computing Techniques for Computed Tomography Image Reconstruction
After we briefly review representative analytic and iterative reconstruction algorithms for X-ray computed tomography (CT), we address the need for faster reconstruction by parallel computing techniques. For a decent, a cone-beam reconstruction usually takes hours on a regular PC, since most of algorithms take more than 60 iterations even longer. In order to speedup the performance, people intr...

Abstract— Data grids are an important branch of gird computing which provide mechanisms for the management of large volumes of distributed data. Energy efficiency has recently emerged as a hot topic in large distributed systems. The development of computing systems is traditionally focused on performance improvements driven by the demand of client's applications in scientific and business domai...
متن کاملGrid processing techniques for the iterative reconstruction of large clinical positron emission tomography sinogram datasets
We have developed, implemented and validated a set of flexible and efficient iterative image reconstruction (IIR) and processing methods for clinical positron emission tomography (PET) static or dynamic studies. IIR techniques are shown to produce images of better contrast and signal-to-noise ratio than the conventional filtered back-projection (FBP). Their high computational cost has been a si...
متن کاملData Replication-Based Scheduling in Cloud Computing Environment
Abstract— High-performance computing and vast storage are two key factors required for executing data-intensive applications. In comparison with traditional distributed systems like data grid, cloud computing provides these factors in a more affordable, scalable and elastic platform. Furthermore, accessing data files is critical for performing such applications. Sometimes accessing data becomes...
